Position Overview:

The Tradesperson is a key member of the Facilities & Property Services team and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all YWCA Halifax properties and facilities. This is a hands-on, skilled role supporting administrative offices, program spaces, residential units, childcare centers, and other organizational facilities.

Essential Duties of Position:

  • Perform routine, preventative, and reactive maintenance across all YWCA Halifax facilities.
  • Complete skilled work across multiple trades including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and minor renovations.
  • Carry out minor plumbing and electrical work within scope of certification and licensing.
    Respond to maintenance requests and urgent repair needs.
  • Conduct regular inspections and identify safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety standards, and occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Follow safe work practices and use appropriate PPE.
  • Support inspections, fire safety, and emergency preparedness activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Red Seal or Journeyperson certification in a recognized trade, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or building operations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites.
  • Physical ability to perform manual and skilled trade work.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
