Hours: 37.5 hours per week; flexibility required for after-hours or on-call work
Location: Halifax Regional Municipality; travel required to all YWCA Halifax properties and facilities
Reports to: Manager of Property Services and Asset Management (or designate)

Position Summary
The Tradesperson is a key member of the Facilities & Property Services team and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all YWCA Halifax properties and facilities. This is a hands-on, skilled role supporting administrative offices, program spaces, residential units, childcare centers, and other organizational facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine, preventative, and reactive maintenance across all YWCA Halifax facilities.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including fixtures, piping, drainage, and water systems.
- Respond to plumbing-related service calls, leaks, blockages, and urgent repair needs.
- Respond to maintenance requests, including carpentry, drywall, painting, minor repairs, and basic renovations.
- Conduct regular inspections and identify safety or maintenance concerns.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors as required.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.
Use of Personal Power Tools & Equipment
- Tradespersons may be required to use approved personal power tools and equipment to perform job duties.
- All personal tools used for work purposes must meet applicable safety standards and be maintained in good working condition.
- Use of personal tools must receive prior approval from the Manager of Property Services and Asset Management (or designate).

Tool & Equipment Reimbursement Policy
- Reimbursement may include a flat allowance, per-use reimbursement, or a hybrid model, subject to policy guidelines and approvals.
- Tradespersons are responsible for submitting required documentation and receipts in accordance with policy and finance procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety standards, and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Follow safe work practices and use appropriate PPE.
- Support inspections, fire safety, and emergency preparedness activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Licensed Plumber Red Seal or Journeyperson certification, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance or building operations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites.
- Physical ability to perform manual and skilled trade work.
