YWCA Strong With Her – Yoga

decorative

Please join us for our yoga karma class and help us end gender-based violence.

We would love to have you join our list of studios this year and encourage as many others as possible to mark this crucial day with a reflection by doing a yoga class. Of course, this is not limited to just yoga and we encourage both yoga and similar modalities. We know this opens the door to new beginnings and emotional healing.

We will launch the week with a very special virtual event hosted by Nikki Martin on December 6th. More details regarding this special event and our Strong with Her campaign coming soon.

Now more than ever community matters as does its power to enact and affect change and because of this we hope that you will join us.

It’s PREVALENT

Half of all Canadian women have experienced physical or sexual violence.

IT’S GENDERED

92% of teens who experience dating violence are girls.

IT’S LETHAL

Every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.

WHAT IS A KARMA CLASS?

Karma classes are a great way to practice yoga while financially supporting a good cause and connecting with others on a deeper level of awareness. Rather than charge an entry fee, studios collect donations for a charity. During the week of December 1 – 8, 2019, look for the Strong With Her logo. Participating locations will ensure your Karma Class donation supports the work of YWCA Halifax.

WHAT IS THE DECEMBER 6 FUND?

About December 6th Fund:

The December 6th fund provides non-interest-bearing micro-loans and individualized support to women who wish to flee domestic violence but are compelled to stay for reasons of financial instability, life skills, and barriers to sufficient housing and/or self-sustainability. It reduces the number of homeless women and families in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) while working to end violence against women.

Yoga instructors across HRM are joining YWCA Halifax by hosting an in-person and virtual karma class to recognize those lost in Montreal, provide a healing space for self-care, and raise funds to help in our work of ending gender-based violence and providing support to those affected.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Participating locations listed below. Ask your yoga instructor to consider hosting a Karma class in support of YWCA Halifax Strong with HER this December.
