Program Overview 

The Team Lead will work to develop and maintain the operational policies and procedures for all new and existing supportive housing programs for individuals lead by the YWCA Halifax. The Team Lead will be responsible to implement the housing program’s day-to-day operations for the existing individual housing programs of WISH 1, WISH 2, Waverley and Housing Support Workers, in addition to any new supportive housing programs for individuals. The Team Lead will work to ensure the safety and support for residents by overseeing the operations of these aforementioned programs. The Lead’s role will include the supervision and support of all of the aforementioned housing program’s staff. The Lead is responsible for all data reporting in alignment with provincial funding requirements. The Program Lead will liaison with the YWCA Halifax Operational Department to ensure the timely reporting of repairs, maintenance and rent collection. 

Essential Duties of the Position: 

Leading and supporting the individual housing programs in all aspects of resident and programming support, which may include, but is not limited to: 

  • Intake support 
  • Rapport building 
  • Risk/needs assessment 
  • Housing support 
  • Programming 
  • Case management 
  • Resource navigation 
  • Eviction prevention 
  • Safety planning 
  • Case coordination and conferencing 
  • Crisis intervention 
  • Participant complaints and interpersonal conflicts 

Help to develop and manage relationships with residents and staff. This may include, but is not limited to: 

  • Solution-focused problem solving 
  • Support housing operations and facilities support. 
  • Work with YWCA staff to coordinate supports for residents. 
  • Develop case management and individual support plans. 
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies to assist in wrap around supports for residents in need. 
  • Daily monitoring of safety and risk management concerns. 
  • Setting staff’s daily tasks and priorities. 

This position will be tasked with leading programming excellence, which may include, but is not limited to: 

  • Support in performance reviews and support plans 
  • Ensure and monitor excellence in participant/staff relationships 
  • Program monitoring and evaluation 
  • Detailed documentation 

The Team Lead will also be: 

  • Working with the YWCA’s Operations team to ensure the building is maintained to organizational health and safety standards 
  • Completing the scheduling 
  • Ordering supplies 
  • Maintaining operational standards. 
  • Creating and maintaining policy & procedural guidelines for programming and staffing support. 

Other Duties: 

  • Advance the vision and mission of the YWCA Halifax 
  • Serving on internal and/or external committees that support the YWCA Halifax’s capacity to provide quality participant support and housing 
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of residents and staff by complying with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program standards and practices and maintaining a clean environment. 
  • Other duties as delegated by the Housing Manager 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • A degree in social work or related field such as international development studies, sociology, child and youth studies, education, health promotion, or equivalent education and experience 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with supportive housing programs 
  • An understanding of feminist theoretical perspectives and intersectionality, as well as issues such as racism/colonialism, violence against women, sexualized human trafficking, sexual health, and poverty. 
  • Experience in life skills development 
  • Knowledge of and experience with community-based, trauma-informed harm reduction practices as well as a strong commitment to ongoing learning and development in these areas. 
  • Experience working in collaborative environments on complex issues involving multiple and diverse stakeholders. 
  • Must have First Aid/CPR, NVCI, and ASIST 
  • Subject to Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Abuse Registry check 
  • Travel will be required for this position; therefore, a reliable source of transportation is needed
