Location: This is a remote position, with an independent office setup and occasional travel for meetings

Position Summary
The YWCA Halifax Shift Change Project is seeking a Project Assistant who is passionate about women’s economic empowerment in skilled trades and systems change work. Reporting to the Shift Change Project Lead, the Project Assistant is responsible for helping the project organize various events and training with agency partners/stakeholders, women and gender diverse folks in construction trades, and trades industry leaders.
Program Description
YWCA Halifax Shift Change project began in 2018 with a question of how to further women’s economic security in the field of skilled trades, funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE). Shift Change for Equity and Inclusion work continues with the support of the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency and renewed support of WAGE.
The Shift Change project is taking a systems-based approach that focuses on working with community agencies, industry agencies, employers as well as lived experiences of women and gender diverse folks in trades to change some of the workplace culture norms that get in the way of retaining and advancing women and gender diverse folks in trades. We are on a learning journey with partners to be more equitable in our work that includes women as well as underrepresented people.
Responsibilities
- Review event/meeting needs and execute multiple timeline tasks
- Contribute to team plans for project, events and programs;
- Create and monitor project task timelines
- Inform and work with Project team to consider how to manage multiple project event tasks
- Ensure expenses/invoices are reported accurately and responsibly.
- Work collaboratively with team members and partners.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma/degree;
- 1-3 years experience in event organizing, program assistance or other relevant fields’
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, and attention to detail;
- Experience with digital tools such as MS Suite, polling software, calendar planning, and creative technologies for media
- Experience in communication to support event planning and management (zoom);
- Excellent time management, planning
- Highly self-motivated and self-managed; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The following skills and experiences would be an asset
- Knowledge of diversity and inclusion challenges limiting the participation of women and gender diverse folks in the workplace;
- Experience with event coordination;
- Proficiency in productivity and collaboration software (such as Google or Microsoft Suite).
