Program Overview
The YWCA Halifax is seeking a Team Lead responsible for the Nova Scotia Transition and Advocacy for Youth (NSTAY) program. NSTAY is a program which provides exploited/trafficked youth with wraparound support and connects them with the services they need. NSTAY has been developed with a trauma-informed lens and takes a harm-reduction approach. The Team Lead will support the NSTAY Peer Outreach Workers and work in partnership with the Transition and Exploitation Service System (TESS) by brokering and coordinating supports. The Team Lead will also oversee the Family and Community Outreach Program.
The Team Lead’s primary role will be client case management and community outreach; providing a wraparound model of care that will be adaptable and flexible to meet the unique needs of youth who have experienced sexual exploitation. This position does require after-hours availability.
Role of the Team Lead:
Advance the vision and mission of YWCA Halifax.
- Client Case Management:
- Make initial connection with referring agencies, assess eligibility, and match new intakes with peer outreach workers.
- Coordinate wraparound support, including mental health/addiction counselling, income assistance, education, employment for NSTAY participants.
- Work closely with peer outreach to establish programs, achieve program goals, to maintain high quality of service delivery standards and ensure the well-being of participants.
- Provides regular program reports as requested by the manager.
- Convene and participate in collaborative case tables with partners and other service providers.
- NSTAY Staff Clinical Support:
- Weekly peer support meetings with peer outreach.
- Debrief professional practice with staff team.
- Provides emergency/on call assistance as needed.
- Maintains appropriate and up- to- date participants’ case notes and care plan in accordance with YWCA policies and procedures, and confidentiality/privacy policies and program funder’s requirements.
- Community Outreach:
- Support the administration of the Transition and Exploitation Service System (TESS).
- Oversee the Family and Community Outreach Program
- Work with the advocacy team to deliver trainings on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth (CSEC).
- Service provider/user navigation for NSTAY participants and TESS partnership network.
- Develop and deliver public presentations and workshops in collaboration with NSTAY outreach workers.
- Acts as a conduit between NSTAY and TESS to identify and report systemic trends in the program to the Manager of Research and Advocacy.
Other Duties:
- Serves in community/sector task forces and committees as appropriate.
- Participates in YWCA and community-based advocacy activities that are consistent with YWCA policies.
- Ensures the maintenance of all files, information systems, and databases related to areas of responsibility.
- Identifies and pursues opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Other duties as delegated by the Manager, Director and/or Executive Director.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Outstanding leadership and demonstrated effectiveness in communication.
- Strong clinical support skills, high level of computer literacy and advocacy skills.
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of community-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction practices are essential.
- Understanding of program support and evaluation in an outcomes-based framework.
- Must be available for emergency and on-call duties.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in an environment that is not always predictable is a must.
- Must be able to provide current Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record checks with a Vulnerable Sector check upon hiring.
