Title: Community Navigation Coordinator- Youth Volunteerism

Classification: Full Time, Salary

Hours: 37.5 hrs/ week, Monday-Friday (with occasional weekend hours)

Location: DCDC, Spryfield minimum 3 days in person with Team

General Summary and Competencies: 

The Community Navigation Coordinator- Youth Volunteerism, works collaboratively with other team members to ensure that the YWCA Halifax Youth Volunteerism programs and supports are as successful as possible. This primarily includes ensuring youth volunteers are supported, have successful placements, and have wrap around supports and pathways to ongoing opportunities and networks. This may involve meeting with community partners, youth, mentors, developing resources and policies,  online or virtual communication, group and individual supports, and networking. It may also include document and information collection and storage, online communication, database management, navigating community requests and volunteer management best practice, etc.

The Community Navigation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all YWCA procedures, policies, and budgets are followed and helps contribute to the advancement and achievement of the YWCA mission, vision, values, guiding principles, strategic plan, business plan, and departmental plan.

Role of the Community Navigation Coordinator

  • Ensure the day-to-day function of the Youth Volunteerism Program including email, budgets, and other administrative duties
  • Establish and maintain volunteer database system
  • Establish and maintain community partnerships for mentors, volunteer placements, resources, and networking
  • Work collaboratively with other Team members to complete tasks and ensure the success of the program.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and reporting with funder.
  • Support participants in their Volunteering journey, including one-on-one meetings, placement support, mentor connection and connecting to other programs and services as needed.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and practices for youth volunteering and community engagement.
  • Working within financial and budgetary limits
  • Continuous learning and growth to serve participants and program as best as possible

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The Community Navigation Coordinator will have a college diploma or undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Community Development, Human Resources, Education, Gender Studies or other relevant areas of studies.
  • Experience working with youth, non-profits, and volunteers
  • Experience in community partnerships and collaboration.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to work both Independently and as part of a team. Flexible, adaptable, and able to work with your team as needed.
