Program Overview
The Community Living Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Mount Hope
Village community, providing affordable and supported housing. The Manager of Properties and
Assets will support the overall facility management of the YWCA owned townhouses while the
Community Living Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation, functioning
and safety of the building. Ensuring all compliance of community covenants, maintenance
requests, lawn maintenance, and overall neighborhood pride. The Community Living Coordinator
will take on shared on-call responsibility for after-hours facility and maintenance requests and
emergencies.
Role of the Community Living Coordinator:
The Community Living Coordinator will:
• Advance the vision and mission of the YWCA Halifax
Building Management:
• Perform minor repairs, and general preventative maintenance to the building and facilities
including painting, lawn maintenance, snow removal and other duties as requested by the
facilities department.
• Conduct routine, non-licensed inspections of all interior and exterior common areas,
parking lot, outside grounds, and all entrances.
• Ensure fire protection equipment is properly maintained and up to date.
• Support the coordination of licensed inspections as required.
• Support the coordination of major maintenance and repairs under the direction of the
Manager.
• May be requested to show units to potential tenants and complete both in and out
inspections.
• Cleans, performs minor paint jobs and repairs to vacant units for new tenants as necessary.
• Identifies, evaluates, and reports risks associated with the building, takes appropriate
actions to address or alleviate risk, completes incident reports and reports these to the
Manager.
• Weekly cleaning to ensure all outdoor areas associated with the YWCA owned townhouses
are free of garbage, dust, dirt, etc.
• Ensure that all tenancy regulations are being followed.
• Must be available for emergency and On Call duties
Program Management:
• Manages communication path for all current tenant inquiries, passes information on to
appropriate YWCA staff, and/ or responds accordingly.
• Respects the confidentiality of all families and ensures that all information is kept
confidential.
• Maintain written logs
• Maintain written and verbal communication regarding emergency incidents or situations
with residents
• Must be available for emergency and on call duties
Other duties:
• Nurtures and forms meaningful community partnerships.
• Serves as a member of the Facilities Team
• Other duties as delegated by Management
• Attends all general staff meetings and participates in training and professional development
as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Must be able to assess all maintenance issues on site and assist in coordinating repairs
with the Manager of Properties and Assets and/or Contractors.
• Must have First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
• Subject to Criminal Records check with Vulnerable Sector search and a Child Abuse
Registry search.
• Must have experience working within confidentiality guidelines and always maintaining a
high degree of professionalism.
• Must be able to set and maintain professional boundaries.
• Must be comfortable working in a women and children only building and from a women centered perspective.
