The goal of the WISH Program is to alleviate and prevent homelessness for women.
WISH Program objectives are to:
- Build bridges to independence for women
- Increase stability and reduce the risk of homelessness for women
- Help build life skills and money management skills to achieve independence
- Enable participants to achieve stable housing
CLIENT SERVICES
We help women with:
- Safe and affordable housing
- Trusteeship services
- Budgeting support
- Advocacy and support
- Case management
- Referrals to essential services
- Liaising with landlords
- Additional services within a continuum of care
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
- Single women 19 years and older
- Homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness
- On Social Assistance or willing to make an application for assistance
- Willing to enter into a Trustee Program/ trusteeship with the YWCA
- Willing to sign an apartment lease and Housing Agreement.
- If addictions willing to enter a program to work on these issues
- Willing to participate in a case plan in accordance to advice from Social Worker and YWCA WISH Program Staff Team
- Willing to agree to home visits by WISH Program Team once a week as a minimum
- If on medication must be willing to self administer as prescribed by a doctor
- Work on short term and long term goals
- Committed to program for up to one year as needed to achieve goals
- Two references (if possible)
- Evidence of growing stability in ones life
- Acceptance into program by the Department of Community Services
HOW DO I APPLY?
Participants can be referred to the program from other womens shelters, community based agencies, or the Department of Community Services case workers, but self-referrals will also be considered for the program.
Contact the YWCA WISH Program Manager to set up an appointment for application and intake.
HOW LONG IS THE INTAKE PROCESS?
All Applications are kept confidential and will be processed as quickly as possible, usually with in 2 weeks.
Placement into the program depends on client meeting criterion of the program.
