What is the December 6th Fund?

We offer interest free loans to women leaving violent homes. Loans enable women to secure housing, or cover housing costs and other related expenses, as first month's rent, damage deposit, housing start-up, past due utility bills or cleaning supplies.

To qualify for a loan women must:

•    Be fleeing an abusive situation within the last nine months
•    Have a bank account or be willing to set up a bank account
•    Have a source of income (government assistance is acceptable)
•    Have a support letter from an agency (such as a shelter) or professional (such as a doctor)
•    Live in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
