Fly W

FLY-W! - Finding Leadership in Young Women

Finding Leadership in Young Women is a program model that enables young women who are facing barriers at turning points in their lives to increase their self-sufficiency and well-being. Within a safe supportive space, participants of the program have the opportunity to build capacity, increase self-esteem, and connect with a positive peer network and role models.

Under this graduated peer leadership model, the YWCA Youth Programs Department has implemented GirlSpace, Girls Changing the World, and the Spryfield Youth Drug Prevention Action Project.

Peer Leadership Training

For the purpose of engaging and empowering young women in their own processes of learning and development, we offer ongoing training for youth participants (at least 2 day-long Peer Leadership Training sessions per school year) and a supportive environment in which they can lead workshops with their peers.

During these sessions the youth will participate in educational workshops on topics relevant to our programming and a team of experienced facilitators will guide youth participants in the development of their innate leadership skills, encouraging them to recognize their value in group settings.

The trained ‘Peer Leaders’ will then be equipped to facilitate sessions in their schools with the support of the YWCA facilitators. They will also be offered other training throughout the year, and receive an honorarium for their work.

The registration form can be found here.
